The Circle Drive-in Shoot - Dickson City, Pa

Vintage TV had a Great time filming in Dickson City, Pa at the Circle Drive-in the other day.  Now in there 63rd year what a gem of Americana, they just don't make them like that anymore!  I'd advise anyone who hasn't caught a flick at this Drive-in to put it on your must do list now.  This is the way checking-out a movie should be, relax & watch in vintage style.

Thanks to everyone that made it out for the shoot: Pocono Mt Street Rods, Villa Capri Cruisers, Coasters, Al from AJ's Automotive, Montage Mt Cruisers, Car Lovers Car Show Club, AACA Car Club & a Special Thank you to Mike & JoAnn from Coal Cracker Cruisers without whose help none of this would have been possible!  Its nice to see in this day and age someone going out of there way to help, again Thank you.

This is just the first draft of photos, (in the productions stage we will darken the sky & have a movie image on the big screen to simulate more of a Drive-in atmosphere) check back for updates along-the-way.

Vintage's Photo Journal 2012

Hi Fans,

Here is the blog post you've all been asking for!  Well its not really a blog as much as a photo retrospective of all the shows we've filmed so far in 2012.  They say a "Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words" in this case let's hope so, right!  As we start to edit the TV Show and head into production, we will keep posting pics here of the different shows we filmed.  So check back now and then to see if you or your ride made it on camera?

Update:  49 random pics so far and counting (not in any order) - 10/27/12

Photo: My dogs need this as their next ride. Why should humans have all the fun?            Photo: make up by christina-on set prepping Brendon for his debut    Photo: A big Thanks to Anthony Lammardo- John Gillen & Brendon Abbazio for all your help today!

Look Who We Ran into on Location at DMC: Dennis Gage from My Classic Car!

Photo: JC & Dennis Gage talking Hot Rods.

We were on our way to scout the DMC Show that we were filming on Saturday, so we took a detour because the event coordinators were throwing a Hot Rod party the Wednesday before just down the road in NJ.  Much to our surprise My Classic Car was filming this event.  I've always wanted to meet Dennis, after all we're in the same business except he is a blackbelt & I'm still waiting to get my yellowbelt! lol  What a great guy - we talked shop, cars, hot rods, shows, he gave me some tongue-in-cheek directing advice then followed it with the statement "but what do I know" and he even made fun of my little HD Hero2 GoPro camera.  He said your not going to film me with that are you?  Imagine my embarrisment Dennis Gage my professional idol thinks I film my show with this tiny HD Hero2 camera. UGH!!  I then explained that my film crews weren't coming to NJ till Saturday and I just always carry this little pocket camera with me cause you never know?  To fill my viewers in this is the camera we use for all the driving sequences and in-car videos, (its really a super camera by the way).  Even with all that he was still nice enough to give us a quick interview on camera, that really meant a lot to me since usually people in his position don't take the time out of their busy filming schedule to chat never mind give you an interview.  OK time to go off on a Movie tangent:  Filming Dennis under less than ideal conditions I felt like Will Ferrell's character in the Movie Step Brothers, he said in the movie that the reason he got Randy Jackson from American Idol to sign an unconventional item like his katana sword was "your not gonna not get Randy Jackson's signature are you" that's how I felt filming Dennis that day, it wasn't ideal because of the equipment but I'm not gonna not film Dennis, am I?  Long way to go I know to explain this bit but by now you know me.  So to sum it up; got to see not one but two great Hot Rod parties, filmed one for an episode of Vintage TV and met the MAN himself.  LIFE is GOOD!!!

Note: Below is a picture of the camera in-question, look at how small it is on the front of the surfboard to the left.

Photo: It's not often that someone in Dennis' position takes the time out of his busy filming schedule to talk shop. Thanks again Dennis!

Celebrity episodes: "Memories of your First Ride"

At Vintage TV we are always looking for something uniquely different for our viewers; about      6 months ago we embarked on the start of an episode based around celebrities and the first cars they had before they made it big.  We thought that would be an interesting episode and as a result have compiled many great interviews plus passionate testimony on just how important the automobile is in our lives!  Our first ride is something that is not only a vivid memory but something most of us hold truly dear!  Then I received an email from Jesse who has a really cool blog called "just a car guy" and he had several suggestions for our show, one of them was if I'd ever read a book by Matt Stone titled "My first Car" which was ironic given we were already working on a similar project.  I guess it is really true that there are no original ideas left anymore, lol.  I digress, anyway I read the book and then contacted Matt to see if we could use some of his celebrity stories too, I will let you know how that works out in a later update to this blog?  Now that you have the back story, here is Vintage's take on our episode.

We are going to get as many celebrity stories as we can for this episode and we are always looking for more, so if you have any ideas or have a celebrity that you know who would be interested in being on our show please contact us and we'll try and get their interview for the show.  Of course Vintage will put there own unique twist on this concept.

Home Arcade Themed Gamerooms, the Latest Trend.

One of the latest trends in home design is the new entertaining spaces, this used to mean maybe a home theater or man cave bar & pool table or even a poker room.  Now that's all changed for extreme over the top designs, like full-on commercial arcade styled game rooms.  Forget that Xbox hooked to the family TV; Retro is Back and in a Big Way!  Many families are now looking to recreate that classic look of the older styled boardwalk arcades that they remember form their youth.  They want to be the house all the children want to come to, they want to be the house that has fun parties and most importantly they want to be the house that their children actually want to bring their friends to!  Arcade style sit-down games and pinball machines are all critical to the over all look, feel and continued patronage but themes are also important and shouldn't be over looked.  Tin ceilings, beer neon's, jukebox or even your favorite cartoon characters all help to round-out and deepen the experience.  This allows you to be emersed and get lost in the moment.  Trust me everyone will be talking about the parties at your house.  Heck when the zombie apocalypse comes you'll need something to do while your barricaded in your house for months right?  Just a thought but you'd better add a home generator to the budget as you'll need some way to power the games when the city's electric grid go down, maybe solar or wind power as a backup.  Who says going green can't be fun after all it's just good planing. lol

In the coming weeks and months I will be writing about many more of these unique new entertaining trends, so stay tuned.

Ferrari's "50th" Anniversary in Italy.

Well just encase you all out there were wondering, we've been car people for over 25 years! Let's hit the way-back button to show you this photo of our Ferrari Factory Tour in Maranello, Italy in 1997.  This was my Graceland, I was soooo stoked I couldn't wait to get there.  It was at the end of our trip to Europe and it never seemed like it was going to arrive.  After the factory tour we received a tour of the test track, then it was off to the Ferrari museum and then my personnel favorite lunch at the factory restaurant.  We sat right next to the CEO of Ferrari Lucca di Montezemolo, Enzo Ferrari's second son and then VP of Ferrari Piero and Ross Brawn one of the heads of Ferrari's Formula One Team.  I know its crazy, I don't even remember what I ate but I couldn't get over that everything and I mean everything was embossed with the Ferrari Prancing Horse symbol even the tooth picks!  I still have those tooth picks today 15 years later, in-fact I'm starring at them right now.  Crazy huh, what you remember.  Well tooth picks or not it was one of the Best trips of my life, how could it not be when I have JC by my side!  Ciao

New Vintage Cast Caricature.

The new cast caricature is in!  This will be at the end of each show when they run the credits.  Its fun and we're all about FUN.  It's interesting to see how a cartoonist see you, we let the artist do his own thing.  You have to have a sense of humor when it comes to your cartoon.  Special thanks Phil D. for his design.

2004 Penfold's Block 42 Cabernet

The world's most expensive wine: The Penfolds 2004 Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignon costs £109,000 a bottle

The most expensive wine ever sold directly from a winery will go on sale from the venerable Australian winery Penfolds. The limited edition release of the 2004 Penfolds Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignon is priced at $168,000 a bottle.  Can you imagine that and its not even from France, really if I pay that much for a product I'd better be able to live in it or drive it around the block really fast!

The custom ampules made for Penfolds's Block 42 limited release once opened can not be re-corked, so you'd better be ready to polish off this bottle in one sitting.  The wine's distinctive price comes from its rarity. The wine was made from the oldest producing Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the world, transplanted from France to Australia in the 1830s.

Later planted at the Kalimna Vineyard in the Barossa Valley, northeast of Adelaide, the vines today provide unequaled juice, but very little of it. Only 12 bottles of the 2004 vintage will be put up for sale, that's still over $2 million dollars by my count.  Not bad for 12 bottles.

To add further cachet, Penfolds commissioned an ampule of scientific grade glass to hold it from three Australian artists: Nick Mount, who designed and hand-blew the glass; silversmith Hendrik Forster, who prepared the precious metal detailing; and furniture craftsman Andrew Bartlett, made the bespoke Jarrah cabinet.  This bottle does look really cool but it had better be worth a fortune on eBay after the lucky customer drinks this wine otherwise I think a few of these 12 wine aficionados are going to have buyers remorse?  I'm sorry I'll admit it, I love exclusive things probably more than most people but this is ridiculous!  This is the type of item that makes the average person hate the one per-centers for sure.  I don't know maybe I'm just jealous because I can't afford this wine and I would like to or maybe even if I had this kinda money to burn I still wouldn't buy a bottle of wine this absurdly priced?  Oh yea its the latter!

Twelve of a kind: The unique ampoule was specially designed to provide the ideal environment for the wine - and, at £109,000 a bottle, add some well-deserved glamour

Does this picture really need a caption?

OK, now do I have to put text under this picture!  Guys I ask you?  What a Hot Bentley, right?  Maybe this is a blatant attempt by me to get more guy readers?  Maybe I just appreciate the photographers eye for form and beauty?  Maybe this photo is the fantasy of like 99% of the guys in the world? (Not me of-course, because I'm already married to a Hot woman & I have a different super car ride in the garage, hence the 1% discrepancy) But I digress, lets face it this is the picture that should have spawned the phrase; "A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words"  Well enjoy, my small following of readers and remember there will always be more to come!!!

The Morgan 3 wheeler is almost here!

I know I can't wait, the Morgan's are coming, the Morgan's are coming!  For those of you that don't know much about Morgan as a company (shame on you) they have been a family run business in England for over 100 years.  They are one of the last surviving family owned automotive manufactures left in England; Jaguar, MG, Triumph, Rolls Royces, Bentley, Lotus plus lots of others all gone or taken-over by large companies. This latest Morgan model will be a 3 wheeler roadster, you can pick color and interior just like any other car.  What you can't have is a top, this is more like a Motorcycle or Can-am Spyder or AC Cobra than your normal car but that's all part of the fun.  Is this going to be your commuter car, probably not but I see a lot of people going to work now on scooters so who knows?  There won't be many of these units being imported into the US so I would get inline to buy one of these beauties now!  For being such a unique roadster they aren't very expensive. (depending on the exchange rate between $35K to $45K USD) Second this has got to be one of the coolest ways to save on gas, estimates have it around 60+ miles per gallon.  Take that Prius and Smart car, you can't hold a candle to the Morgan in the head-turning department.  Last with 2 wheels in the front it's incredible stable compared to a standard motorcycle or scooters but just as much fun, wait maybe more FUN!  I plan on taking mine with me when we go on our RV trips, how cool is that.  Everyone else will have there little golf carts and I'll be tooling around in this baby, plus I have the added bonus of driving it on the highway.  So I'm waiting for mine to arrive soon, hopefully real soon.  See you all down the road.

Photo: Could this be MAC's new ride to the show?

I finally got to drive one of the US models, no this one isn't mine.  I ordered a Black one.  This was so much fun to drive and man does it sound mean going down the road.  I will tell you it is a little snug in the cockpit but hey it'll keep me on my diet!  JC will be happy about that too, so I get a new cool roadster and the wife is happy.  LIFE is GOOD!

CRUZ'N on a Sunday afternoon.

My Favorite Car for Summer cruzing.  This is a 1949 Mercury Led-Sled.  Restomoded and chopped.  I love this car, doesn't it just make you want to get in and drive.  Some of my favorite drives are when I have nowhere in particular to go, just top down wind in your hair the sun on your face not a care in the world CRUZ'N!  That's also my favorite time to think, I think we could all use more times like that.  All of us right now just have to put down that boring work for today & just go for a drive, like the old days.  Forget about gas prices for one day and just enjoy how truly cool a car really is and if you don't own a convertible then you can come with me, I have 3 spots open first come first served.  Remember: "Vintage is never out of style".
